My Gaming Landscape [May 20, 2013]

I finished Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time! I wrote a review for it which you can check out here. Overall, I did not love the game and it pains me to say that as a Sly Cooper fan. One real nail in the coffin is the final boss fight is a quick time event, ugh. It does still feel like a Sly Cooper game for what its worth and is fun early on. However, the game begins to drag and it’s flaws start to really show themselves as the game goes on. The worlds you’re in aren’t that diverse overall either. The costume system and ancestors that you get to play are also missed opportunities. If it sounds like I’m being really hard on the game, I probably am but it’s due to the fact that while it may not be a bad game, Thieves in Time is a very disappointing one.

After that, I got Ni No Kuni in the mail and at first I was in love with it but now I’m starting to see some issues. The combat takes some time to get used to and the beginning is very slow moving and constrictive. The first city you’re in, you basically have to do what they say to do and you aren’t free to roam around and visit shops and stuff. I will be doing a review for this game but it won’t be for awhile. Other than that, I played Ninja Gaiden Sigma for a little bit several nights ago just because I wanted to break up the work flow a bit and played PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and Injustice: Gods Among Us at a friends house. Oh and I bought Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed, Need for Speed Most Wanted and Alice Madness Returns from the Amazon sale this past week. I’ve completed all of these games but now I actually own them! And I really want to start Metro 2033 with the release of the sequel Last Light. Maybe soon…

So what did you play this past week? Let me know in the comment section below!

Journal: Getting Back on Track

tumblr_ln99wxNBM21qey70ho1_500After yesterday’s journal entry, I ended up just watching New Girl via Amazon Instant Video and organizing my bookmarks on Chrome. I never got around to listening to Rush or anything. So it’s on my list of things to do. I did however start to listen to some of the music I had on my iTunes and deciding that I need to do a little clean up. I have songs on there that while may not be bad songs but I’m just never going to listen to them frequently and will not miss or even remember if I were to lose them. So I’m slowly going to start being more picky with the music I get and delete stuff I don’t care about. I’m going to focus on stuff that’s been released more recently and work my way back since I tend to like older music more. I got rid of a Bon Jovi song, some new pop stuff that I can’t even remember already and most of David Bowie’s new album.

I woke up late today and it was due to me not falling asleep until five in the morning today and not really sleeping well. I’m still not resting all too good and I’m not sure why. I’m not really that worried about my mother although we still need to wait for the test results. I think I’m going to take a Benadryl and knock myself out today early so I can be (hopefully) fresh and rejuvenated relatively early tomorrow. However, before I do that, I’m going to record some footage of me playing Final Fantasy II because I only put up one video last week. I’m going to try and play for two hours so I don’t have to worry about that too much for a while. The videos are roughly 15 minutes so two hours should get me seven to eight videos. I’ll probably do that after I finish writing this.

Other than that, today I wrote a feature for Gaming Precision for me to edit and post tomorrow. It’s on what the Xbox reveal that’s happening on Tuesday should be. I’m planning on reporting on it Tuesday after it finishes so I’ve got my GP content down for at least two more days. Finally I got some Burger King today. I got a Double Whopper, plain with cheese, french fries, onion rings and a Strawberry Banana smoothie. It was SOOOOOO GOOOOOOOD! The meat was charbroiled to perfection and the cheese was all gooey and melting. Ugh. I’m starting to get hungry now again.

Alright, that’s all from me. If you would like to let me know how you’re day was, feel free to leave me a response in the comment section below. I hope you had an interesting and thought provoking day and I’ll keep in touch. Peace and love, my brothers and sisters! Colorwind out!

Journal: Surgery and Pizza

OggisFullSo yesterday my mother had her surgery and she came out of it really quick. She was in and out of the operating room in like 45 minutes. However, we waited for her to go into the operating room for like three and a half hours. However, she’s fine and she wasn’t even in any pain or drowsy despite being under anesthesia. Afterward, she told me to get out of the house so I wouldn’t worry about her so I went over my friend Rick’s place. I brought my PS3 and some games and we had a good time. We discussed making music again, watched A Haunted House, and ate pizza and wings. My buddy David was also there and both him and me were tortured by Rick and his girlfriend and baby momma Lindsay with random ass YouTube videos.

Today, I spent the day with my mother Cynthia and we went to Oggi’s and ate some pizza. Yeah, pizza again. I liked it, though I wasn’t crazy about it, but Cynthia didn’t care for her pizza. After that and a feeble attempt to buy a pantry for the kitchen at Target, we came home and Cynthia watched her Dodgers game while I checked my messages and such. Then we watched the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2013 Ceremony on HBO and that kicked ass. Specifically, Heart and Rush. I’m a big fan of Heart and I love them performing live. Rush on the other hand, I know little about. I know some of the big songs but I’ve never heard a Rush album. After seeing them tonight, I need to check them out. 2112 is the album I should check out I’ve heard so I may do that tonight as it’s on Spotify.

Alright, that’s all from me. If you would like to let me know how you’re day was, feel free to leave me a response in the comment section below. I hope you had an interesting and thought provoking day and I’ll keep in touch. Peace and love, my brothers and sisters! Colorwind out!

Journal: Sega Saturn!

SONY DSCI got paid yesterday and I finally bought a Sega Saturn on eBay. It’s the original model with one controller and five games, Sega Rally, Sonic 3D Blast, Daytona USA, Virtua Fighter 2, and some sports game. I also got a micro SD card for my phone, Ad free Angry Birds, two volumes of Batman comics, New Girl season 1, Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, and several games that were on sale including Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed, Alice Madness Returns, and Need for Speed Most Wanted. It’s been an eventful day.

However, I also haven’t been able to sleep well these past few days. Ever since I found out my mother might have Cancer, I can’t sleep well. I’m worried and I can’t help that feeling, even when I’m not thinking about it. I’ve cleared most of my schedule this week because of it. After the surgery tomorrow, they’ll find nothing. Other than that, I’ve been playing some Ni No Kuni and right now I’m playing Ninja Gaiden Sigma. I’m going to take a Benadryl and go to sleep soon, I hope.

Alright, that’s all from me. If you would like to let me know how you’re day was, feel free to leave me a response in the comment section below. I hope you had an interesting and thought provoking day and I’ll keep in touch. Peace and love, my brothers and sisters! Colorwind out!

Journal: The Big C?

tumblr_mb1n58yaax1qcq2vho1_500So I woke up early and I was having a pretty normal day. Edited news articles, wrote my review of Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, put up a new CWB Final Fantasy II, so on and so on. Then I go with my mother to the doctor for an appointment she had and I find out that she has abnormal cells that may be cancerous. They’re not sure if it is cancer but she’s having emergency surgery on Friday. I’m worried. I’ve been forcing her to go to the doctor more often so they probably caught it early enough to do something about it but I’m still worried. Tomorrow, she’s going to take a bunch of tests – EKG, blood work, x-ray – and then she’ll have a pre-op on Thursday. Hopefully, this is nothing.

After the doctor’s appointment, we went out to eat at Steer and Stein. I had a Beef Dip Sandwich. It was good. To take my mind off of things, I finally started Ni No Kuni and I already know that I want to buy this game. It’s gorgeous, I love the soundtrack, the combat is really interesting and different, and I’m already in love with the characters and premise. I played for a couple of hours and then popped in Sly 1 and 2 just for the hell of it. Now I’m going to watch some Looney Tunes Show until bed probably.

Alright, that’s all from me. If you would like to let me know how you’re day was, feel free to leave me a response in the comment section below. I hope you had an interesting and thought provoking day and I’ll keep in touch. Peace and love, my brothers and sisters! Colorwind out!

Colorwind Beats Final Fantasy II (SNES) - Part 4: Shopping Redo

Journal: And The World is Saved!

pandacapeHad a productive day today. In addition to encouraging my writers to pick their own stories, I also contacted some people about writing for the site. We got a screen door installed in the side door so now we’re opening that door for the first time since we moved into this place! I wrote a Gaming Landscape about what I’ve been playing for the past week and I also went through my shirts in my closet seeing if they all still fit me. They still do.

I finished playing Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time and I’m going to write the review either later tonight or tomorrow. I was planning on recording some more footage for my Colorwind Beats Final Fantasy II (SNES) series but I ran out of time. I’ll have to do it tomorrow. Cynthia has an appointment with the doctor tomorrow so I’m going to go with her for that. Otherwise, I had a fairly busy but still easy day. Now I’m just listening to some Guns N’ Roses and organizing some files on my computer.

Alright, that’s all from me. If you would like to let me know how you’re day was, feel free to leave me a response in the comment section below. I hope you had an interesting and thought provoking day and I’ll keep in touch. Peace and love, my brothers and sisters! Colorwind out!

My Gaming Landscape [May 13th, 2013]

Sly_ElJefeBossBattle01Weekly Gaming Landscapes! This will be so much easier! The main game I’ve been playing all week is Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time for the PlayStation 3. I’m playing it for review for the site I write for, Gaming Precision, and while I’m a big fan of the Sly Cooper series, I’m pretty much tired of this game. I’m in the last area, thankfully, but I can’t wait to finish this game. There’s nothing very wrong with the game and it certainly plays and feels like a Sly Cooper game but the quality is lacking. You can read about it in my review which will more than likely go up later this week but I’m not enjoying it.

What I am enjoying still is Injustice: Gods Among Us. I’m not playing it as much because I’m busy with Sly Cooper but I’m still loving trying out all the characters and seeing who I’m good with and who I’m not. I’m getting better with Wonder Woman and I”ve tried out The Flash, whom I’m alright with. I’m also a little better with Batman, who before I couldn’t play as at all. Superman and Nightwing are still my favorites. I did some of the S.T.A.R. Lab missions and I still don’t like them but they’re getting easier and I need to complete it in order to unlock stuff so I might as well get started.

Other than that, I played Final Fantasy II a little for my Colorwind Beats series of the game but that was last Sunday. I’ll play more today for another video. I need to since I haven’t uploaded one since Thursday. I also loaded up the original Tomb Raider on Steam and it doesn’t work properly with a controller! So that sucks. That’s about it though this week. After Sly Cooper, I’ll be playing Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch for review and that game looks really cool. I’m excited to play it! But anyways, what have you been playing? Let me know in the comments below!

Journal: Slug Through The Day

the_slugDon’t you hate it when you wake up still tired? Isn’t it even worse when you remain tired for the rest of the day? I’ve been tired all day, probably from yesterday. However, I still managed to pay the monthly bills, organize my email, send out some emails and play some more Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. I finished downloading all my Steam games and all downloaded the GOG games I have. The big thing I did today was write an article of my top five games of 2013 so far. It’s doing very well on Giant Bomb; I’m still getting comments on it now. Not much happened today. Now I’m going to kick back and go to sleep.

Alright, that’s all from me. If you would like to let me know how you’re day was, feel free to leave me a response in the comment section below. I hope you had an interesting and thought provoking day and I’ll keep in touch. Peace and love, my brothers and sisters! Colorwind out!

My Top Five Games of 2013 (So Far)

I haven’t played all the big games released this year but I’ve played a lot of them. So here are my personal top five games I’ve played in 2013 so far in no particular order. All these games are from the first four months of the year. Without further adieu, let’s get started.

Tomb-Raider-8Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider was my most anticipated game of 2013. For both 2011 and 2012, it was my best game of E3. It was finally released and after playing it, I can say that it was good. Really good. Lara Croft is easily the best thing about this game. The progression from a scared woman trying desperately to stay alive to a hardened survivor is extremely well done. Some feel the violence is over the top but I think it’s appropriate for the setting and circumstances. The transition to it might be weak but it’s appropriate.

The gameplay is also well done as it’s satisfying to scale walls and finish these epic setpieces. Seriously, Nathan Drake can suck it. Gunplay is also really fun, thanks to the automatic cover system (that does work) and the visceral impact the guns have. I completed it 100% because this is also one of those games that actually makes collecting all the little things fun. I’ll be honest, it may not be all that it could’ve been but it’s worth your time because it’s still a great game.

darkstalkers-resurrection-screenshot-6-darkstalkers-3Darkstalkers Resurrection

I didn’t get to play the Darkstalkers series much when I was young because the home releases weren’t something that were popular when I was young. However, I did enjoy playing the original arcade cabinet at a pizza parlor next to the Laundromat I used to go to with my mom. While the original isn’t included here, the second game (which is more like an update to the first game) and the third game are in this collection and they both hold up after all these years.

A lot of the combat has many of the tropes that fighting games have now but in a more distilled, simple way. What is different is Darkstalkers focuses on super moves like ES and EX moves by letting your meter fill up rapidly, especially in Darkstalkers 3. The art design is also really creative and crazy making it very interesting to look at. Girls shooting fire from underneath their dresses, vampires summoning dozens of bats, bigfoot living up to his name, Darkstalkers is a blast and well worth the $15.

129-dmc-devil-may-cry-2LQDmC: Devil May Cry

One of the first games of this year I played, DmC kicked off my 2013 with a bang. The fast paced and varied combat made me fall in love with this game. All of the weapons you have at your disposal with little to know consequence. The boss fights are also memorable such as the battle with the Succubus or Bob Barcas, the CNN style news pundit. However, what kept it interesting were the diverse and inspired levels.

The level design in DmC is constantly changing and evolving due to the concept of Limbo being like an alternate dimension in the real world. The club levels are especially cool and all of the levels feature a varied color palette. The story is also more substantial than it initially appears to be and the ending satisfyingly concludes the story while setting up a sequel. It makes for a game that is proficient in every one of it’s aspects and its only real problem is you wish there was more of it.

patriotfight_ONLINEBioShock Infinite

I wasn’t into this game when I first started it. I thought the combat was meh and the story was moving too slowly. But I kept at it and the game got better and better and better until now I’m contemplating whether or not BioShock Infinite is one of the greatest games I’ve ever played. The combat gets really intense and the powers are fun to use in numerous ways that keep combat interesting. The railway combat is also well done so that it’s not too chaotic.

Obviously, the best aspect about the game is the story and art design. Columbia is beautiful in both a visually appealing way and from a graphical standpoint. Sound design is also great. I was stopped cold when I was going through a war torn portion only to find a little black girl singing a slave hymn version of CCR’s Fortunate Son. Oh and the ending. THE ENDING! One of the best endings I’ve ever seen from a game, you need to play this game, for the ending, for the world, for the gameplay, for everything.

Injustice-Gods-Among-Us-Screenshot-05Injustice: Gods Among Us

I did not think I was going to like this game. At least not as much as I did. What’s more is a lot of my reservations are justified. The story is dumb, the presentation is below par, the S.T.A.R. Labs mode is awful and there are several characters that are severely unbalanced (Green Lantern, Deathstroke, Doomsday). That said, the combat is SO GOOD! The mechanics are simple yet extremely deep, incorporating combos, juggling, special move priority and stage interactivity. However, none of this is overused. It’s not like Tekken who takes juggling way too far or BlazBlue with it’s insane combos.

What’s more is the characters don’t control like other characters in other fighting games. Each are truly their own characters. What’s more is the online play is pretty good at matching you with a player at your skill level. If you feel like fighting games all feel a little bit the same, you should try Injustice. You’ll love it, flaws and all.

So what are your top five games of 2013 so far? Let me know in the comments below!
